  • Children | Ann Arbor | West Side United Methodist Church

Children There is always something fun going on for children. Come join us! Sunday School Children are at the heart of Jesus' ministry. We use a rotational model of children's Sunday School to give our elementary aged kids a chance to learn about memorable and important bible stories in more depth. We focus on a single bible story over several weeks using a series of different experiences including music, art, games, science, and performance, to gain a deeper understanding of the story. What we are up to now! Christmas Pageant West Side's Christmas-themed musical is a favorite event! A fun and meaningful script is chosen each year. Children rehearse on Sundays leading up to a performance during worship service in December. All children are welcome to participate on stage or behind the scenes. Learn More Vacation Bible School West Side's Vacation Bible School is usually held for one week in June from 5:00-8:00pm (dates and times may vary) and it is free for everyone. Children ages 3 (potty-trained) through 5th grade are welcome, and older students are invited to volunteer. The week includes art and crafts, music, games, snacks, and fun all connecting to the week's Biblical theme! See great pictures Children's Summer Musical During the summer months, children are invited to participate in West Side's summer musical. Children rehearse on Sunday mornings during the worship service. Rehearsal attendance is flexible to accommodate vacations and other summer activities. The cast and crew perform the musical at the worship service on the 2nd Sunday in September. We welcome all children who want to participate, and have big parts, small parts, and director's assistant roles available to fit everyone's comfort level. 2019 Information Please reload

Top of Page Maundy Thursday Good Friday Easter Sunday Holy Week Activities Maundy Thursday Service Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 7:30pm This Thursday evening at 7:30pm EST you (and your household) are invited to join in for a Zoom-hosted, interactive Maundy Thursday worship service--live (at least in part) from the Ziegler’s kitchen! The reason why we’ll be gathering around the laptop and the table for this service is so that we can share in a Moravian Love Feast. Just FYI, this Love Feast is not a sacrament. So, if you’d like to gather up some water (or some other beverage) and some bread (or crackers or sweet bread or whatever carby substance you’d like), and then get ready to distribute those items to your entire household as we move through worship together. Also, if you are able to share this love feast around a table, you may feel a bit more like Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem for the Passover 2,000 years ago. (Bonus points if you research what the disciples would have been sitting on in the upper room. Email me photographic proof of you and/or your family dining this way for this meal. Also, after you hear the word “God Loves You” please respond with the phrase “And There’s Nothing You Can Do About It!”) To join this Zoom service, please contact Pastor Tim at and he will email you directions. Good Friday Service This Friday, April 10, 2020, at 7:30pm EST, we will bear witness to the death of Christ during our shared YouTube Live worship service [link to channel below]. It will be a Tennebrae service that examines the ensuing darkness. If you’d like to have candles lit in your at-home makeshift worship spaces, that’d be great. We will be extinguishing fifteen candles during the service. Click here to join us on YouTube Live Friday at 7:30 pm Easter Sunday Surprise! Even in the midst of darkness and distress, new life is popping up all around us which we believe meets its fullness in the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. Join us this Sunday, April 12, 2020 at 10:30 am EST for our Tiny Desk Sermon which will begin exploring the ramifications of an Easter rEVOLution. on our YouTube channel. P: Praise God for wonderful acts of mercy and kindness! L: God has remembered God’s faithful ones. P: God has poured blessing upon blessing upon us! L: Praise the Lord, all the earth, shout your praise! P: Rejoice, for God is truly with us. AMEN. Opening Song Come Down, O Love Divine (UMH 475) 1. Come down, O Love divine, seek thou this soul of mine, and visit it with thine own ardor glowing; O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear, and kindle it, thy holy flame bestowing. 2. O let it freely burn, till earthly passions turn to dust and ashes in its heat consuming; and let thy glorious light shine ever on my sight, and clothe me round, the while my path illuming. 3. And so the yearning strong, with which the soul will long, shall far outpass the power of human telling; for none can guess its grace, till Love create a place wherein the Holy Spirit makes a dwelling. Scripture Reading While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on everyone who heard the word. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 They heard them speaking in other languages and praising God. Peter asked, 47 “These people have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. Surely no one can stop them from being baptized with water, can they?” 48 He directed that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited Peter to stay for several days. • Baptism | Ann Arbor | West Side United Methodist Church

Baptisms Baptism is an important sacrament of our faith. Baptism is for people of any age, from infants to adults. In the United Methodist Church we recognize baptisms from any faith. At West Side Church we baptize any who desire to welcome Christ into their lives during a worship service. Baptism is done with holy water, which is sprinkled on the head, or applied in the sign of a cross on the forehead. We believe that each person is only baptized once in their life, but we encourage everyone who has been baptized to remember their baptism in a special worship service held during the year.
