Youth Ministry Leader

 

The West United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor is looking for a part-time (8-12 hours/week) Youth Ministry Leader for Middle School and High School age youth. The Youth Ministry Leader shall seek to foster Christian community through building relationships with our youth by inspiring, encouraging, and supporting them in their faith journey. This shall be done under the guidance of and in cooperation with the Director of Spiritual Formation.


 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Use talents and gifts to coordinate and oversee the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) meetings, activities and programs, including publicity for these activities and programs.  These include:

    • Weekly gathering on Sundays and/or during the week.

    • Youth mission trips with the help and support of the Youth Ministries Team and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

    • Special programs for youth (e.g. Confirmation and Sunday School).

  • Recruit and help volunteers from the congregation to share their passions with the youth.

  • Have regular contact and build personal relationships with the youth and their families.

  • Administrative and financial duties, including planning and maintaining the UMYF financial needs.  

  • Provide input to the annual church budget in regards to youth programming.  

  • Participate in worship by assisting where needed (Time with Children, assisting with technology, communications, etc.)

 

Qualifications/ Characteristics:

  • A love of working, interacting, and relating with youth and their families.

  • Shows spiritual maturity and knowledge of Christian principles.

  • Able to follow and communicate the teachings of the United Methodist Church.

  • Good organizational skills and effective communicator.

  • Minimum of 21 years old, in accordance with Safe Sanctuary Policy.

  • Computer and social media skills for intentional communication across generations.
